Well they’ve rebooted most of the successful movie franchises, and now it’s time for Robocop. As an early teenager I watched the original on a pirated Betamax videotape and loved it, it was the most exciting, violent, bloody film I’d seen up until that point. The sequels were a huge disappointment.
This however looks smart, glossy and although it’s been CGI’d to the extreme but it still feels good. It has some amazing actors in it, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton (where on earth has he been?!?) both of which seem to steal every scene they’re in.
The plot formula seems very similar, set in the near future, lawlessness has got out of control, gangs rule the streets and a crack down is needed, enter the hero in the form of character Alex Murphy (played by Scandiwegian actor Joel Kinnaman), Alex is a family man, son, wife etc, good morals etc. He’s caught in the cross fire where he’s left in a shell of a body that doesn’t work. Enter the technical team who make him into Robocop, thinking they can control him and his actions, but things don’t go to plan. Enter industrial skulduggery fused with criminal shoot outs and action nonsense you know the score. This looks like complete popcorn fodder and I for one can’t wait for the 2014 release.
